What is Chlorophyll ?

Posted on 09 October 2023 02:24 am

Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants, algae, and some bacteria. It plays a crucial role in photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy (glucose) using carbon dioxide and water.

Chlorophyll molecules absorb light energy from the sun, which is then used to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. This process is essential for plants to produce their own food and release oxygen into the atmosphere, which is vital for the survival of many organisms on Earth.

There are different types of chlorophyll, including chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-b, each with slightly different light absorption characteristics. These pigments are responsible for the green color of plants and are fundamental to the energy production that sustains life in ecosystems.
